Dear visitor,
It is a great honour for me to represent the Local Authorities of the land of Psiloritis, in my capacity as President of the "AKOMM - PSILORITIS DEVELOPMENT AGENCY SA LOCAL AUTHORITIES GOVERNMENT", and therefore, give you a very warm welcome to our land!
The mountain of Psiloritis - by nature and location - has always been special from the social point of view, acting as a different unit by its own right. The settlements may well be quite remote one from the other, due to the geo-morphology of the ground; nevertheless, the inhabitants have always been quite conscious of their common identity, forged by the land’s history and the producing activities they all share. Such conscientiousness is reflected, among others, in the strong social ties and the joint institutional positioning of the local community.
Ever since it was founded, our Development Agency has set as a strategic objective the creation of a specific financial and social environment, so as to include in the products and services available in the region, the cultural and environmental added value of the land at the mountain of Psiloritis.
Our goal is to create a different and well-recognized agro-touristic product, featuring some very concrete and known beforehand aspects of quality.
Besides the successful management of several funding instruments (LEADER, Integrated Projects for the Development of Rural Areas), used to set up various private and public infrastructure tools, our Development Agency has also inspired the consensus of local society in some "difficult" subjects, such as the environment. Some examples thereof are on one hand, the creation of the PSILORITIS NATURAL RESERVE and on the other, the cooperation which has led to the foundation of the "LAND OF PSILORITIS SA", a network of approximately 60 enterprises based in the land of Psiloritis.
In addition to that, AKOMM - PSILORITIS in cooperation with the network "LAND OF PSILORITIS SA" has created a LOCAL TRADEMARK, reflecting the essential standards included in the local quality agreement.
It is our strong belief that for such efforts to be fruitful, the most crucial factor is the response of the recipients, in other words, the response from the high-standards visitor and consumer of these products, the guest expecting to receive our land’s honesty, hospitality and originality.
If you are one of these guests, we sincerely hope that this virtual navigation will make you want to meet in person the nature of Psiloritis Mountain and get the feeling of the unique, unadorned popular culture, which has grown for centuries now at the mountain’s picks and roots. It is a popular culture with multiple expressions that one can witness in the local dances, songs and "mantinada" (traditional rhyming verses), as well as in all aspects of everyday life, such as births, baptisms, marriages and death, not to mention popular architecture and art, peoples’ sense of humour, self-sarcasm wit and fiction-making.
